নিউজলপাইগুড়ি স্টেশনে দার্জিলিং হিমালয়ান রেলের তরফে আয়োজিত একমাস ব্যাপী সামার ফেস্টিভ্যালের উদ্বোধনী অনুষ্ঠানের ফিতে কাটার পাশাপাশি মঙ্গলবার খেলনা ট্রেন টানা তিনমাস পর দুটি শীততাপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত ও একটি প্রথম শ্রেণির কামরা নিয়ে সমতল থেকে পাহাড়ী পথে বাঁক নেয়। মঙ্গলবার প্রথম দিনে খেলনা গাড়ি দুটি শীত তাপ নিয়ন্ত্রিত কামরার যাত্রী বলতে এক নবদম্পত্তি জুটি। যদিও প্রথম শ্রেণীতে ছিল ১৬জন যাত্রী।

 

 

খেলনা ট্রেনের ভাড়াও ১৬০০টাকা থেকে কমিয়ে ১৪০০টাকা করা হয়েছে। কমানো হয়েছে প্রথম শ্রেণির কোচের ভাড়াও। এদিকে কোভিডের পরবর্তী সময়তে টয়ট্রেনের ইতিহাসে  যাত্রী সংখ্যা রেকর্ড ভেঙে  ১৫শতাংশ বেড়েছে বলে দাবি করেন এদিন উত্তর পূর্ব রেলের কাটিহার ডিভিশনের ডিআরএম এস কে চৌধুরী।
